How to blur faces in a video automatically

Updated

Short answer

Use an app that tracks faces for you. FaceHush hides every face in a clip by default and keeps it covered as people move; you only tap the people who should stay visible. It runs on your phone, so the video is never uploaded.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Import the clip

Open FaceHush, switch to Video and choose a clip from your library.

  2. 2

    Let it analyse

FaceHush finds every face and follows it through the clip. Everyone starts hidden.

  3. 3

    Keep who you want

Tap a person to keep them visible. Everyone else stays censored.

  4. 4

    Preview and render

Scrub the filmstrip to check, choose blur or mosaic, then render and save.

Why video is harder than photos

A ten second clip at 30 frames per second is 300 images. Faces turn, get partly covered, leave the frame and come back. Blurring each frame by hand is not realistic, and a single missed frame can reveal someone.

Desktop editors such as DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro can track a blur over a face, but you set it up per face and fix the track by hand when it drifts.

How FaceHush handles it

FaceHush detects faces across the clip and tracks each person, so the censor follows them as they move. The default is that everyone is hidden, which is the safe failure mode: if you forget someone, they stay covered.

  • Blur and mosaic styles with adjustable strength
  • Free: clips up to 15 seconds, rendered at up to 720p, small watermark
  • Pro: clips up to 10 minutes at up to 1080p, no watermark, no ads
  • Everything runs on the phone, offline

Check before you post

Always watch the result once before sharing. Very small faces, faces at extreme angles and fast motion are the hardest cases for any tracker. Re-run with a stronger style if anything looks thin.
