Privacy Policy

FaceHush ("the App", "we", "us") is a mobile application that censors faces in photographs using on-device machine learning. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use FaceHush and how it is handled.

The short version: FaceHush processes everything on your device. No photos, no face data, and no personal information are ever sent to our servers or any third party (except for ad delivery in the free version, described below).

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

FaceHush does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Photos or images from your photo library
  • Face data, face embeddings, or biometric identifiers
  • Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information
  • Location data
  • Device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV) for tracking purposes
  • Usage analytics or crash logs sent to our servers

2. On-Device Processing

All core functionality — face detection, face recognition, photo editing, and exporting — runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple's on-device frameworks (ML Kit, Core ML). Your photos are never uploaded anywhere. The face library you build in the app (saved face entries with names) is stored exclusively in your device's local storage (AsyncStorage) and is never synced to any cloud service.

3. Local Storage

The App stores the following data locally on your device only:

  • Face library: Names and face embeddings you save to match people across photos. Stored on-device only.
  • App settings: Your preferred censor style, export quality, and other preferences.
  • Export history: A record of photos you have exported (stored on-device only).

This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time by deleting the App.

4. Advertising (Free Version)

The free version of FaceHush displays advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use certain data to serve relevant ads, in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.

On iOS, the App shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt before any advertising identifier is accessed. If you decline, only contextual (non-personalised) ads are shown. You can change this permission at any time in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

Pro subscribers do not see any advertisements and no advertising data is collected.

5. In-App Purchases

Subscriptions are processed entirely through Apple's App Store. FaceHush does not collect or store your payment information. Apple's purchase receipt validation confirms subscription status. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for information about how Apple handles purchase data.

6. Photo Library Access

FaceHush requests access to your photo library to let you import photos for editing and save censored exports back to your library. This permission is used only when you explicitly choose a photo or export a result. We do not scan or index your library in the background.

7. Children's Privacy

FaceHush is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Data Security

Because all data is stored locally on your device and nothing is transmitted to external servers, the security of your data is protected by your device's own security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID). We recommend keeping your iOS version up to date.

9. Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to delete, correct, or export on our end. To remove all app data, simply uninstall FaceHush from your device — this deletes all locally stored face library entries, settings, and history.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
